Differential Bio emerged from stealth in Munich with a Virtual Scale-up Platform that integrates advanced microbiology, robotics-driven lab automation, and AI to simulate and optimize bioprocesses. The platform miniaturises fermentation, generates high-quality phenotypic and bioprocess data through automated workflows, and applies machine learning to reduce reliance on costly physical experiments. In the probiotics industry the company reported a 4x increase in biomass yield and a 16% reduction in production costs when transitioning a strain to plant-based media. Differential Bio says its approach speeds optimisation cycles, lowers development costs, and improves yields to address biomanufacturing's scaling bottlenecks. The company raised €2 million in a pre-seed round and will use the funds to enhance the Virtual Scale-up Platform, tackle more complex multi-strain systems and novel bio-products, scale its automated "self-driving lab", recruit talent, and onboard new clients.
