Dimpora makes breathable waterproof membranes based on a proprietary technology licensed from ETH Zurich, aimed initially at the outdoor and active apparel market. Its membranes are designed to match or surpass leading solutions for breathability and waterproofness while avoiding potentially harmful fluorinated chemicals. The technology enables novel porous membranes using various materials, including biodegradable or bio-based options, and supports circular business models. The team has worked together since May 2018 and has progressed the membrane out of the lab toward scaled production. The company plans to scale production and deliver initial collections with brand partners worldwide; recent funding will be used to grow the team and accelerate that scaling. Dimpora develops non-toxic, mineral-based, fluorine-free 3D micro-thin membranes that make outdoor garments water- and wind-resistant while remaining breathable. Their technology can be paired with recyclable or biodegradable base materials, aiming to reduce release of non-degradable toxins and microplastics from apparel. The company emphasizes swapping base materials to improve end-of-life environmental performance. Dimpora won a €250,000 prize from the Global Change Award and will join a one-year accelerator to support development. They launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise additional funds to advance research, scale the technology, and accelerate market entry; the campaign has already passed more than half of its funding goal. The startup is based in Switzerland.
