Drover AI is a Los Angeles–based startup that sells an attachable IoT module called PathPilot (and an upcoming PathPilot Lite) which uses an onboard camera and on-device compute to analyze visual data and issue commands to scooters. The modules can alert riders with sounds or slow scooters when they detect sidewalk riding, and Drover’s tech is deployed with operators including Spin, Voi, Helbiz, Beam and Fenix. The company reports modules on over 5,000 vehicles and orders for over 15,000 more that it aims to deliver by year-end. Drover also builds customer-facing dashboards for operators and sells data to cities, and is exploring distributed moving cameras and a city-facing dashboard to inform infrastructure and policy. Near-term plans funded by the recent raise include ramping PathPilot Lite production, hiring across engineering, project management, government relations/communications in Europe, and a software engineer to expand dashboards. Longer-term the company is exploring integrations and licensing with vehicle and IoT manufacturers to embed its AI into next-generation hardware.
