Overview
DSCVR is a blockchain-based social network built on Dfinity’s Internet Computer protocol that hosts token-gated communities called "portals." These portals require users to own specific NFTs to participate and serve as a distribution channel for NFT projects via airdropped digital assets. The platform offers a native wallet intended to simplify onboarding by avoiding the need for users to hand over control of their keys. DSCVR says it has onboarded over 100,000 users and has generated "millions of dollars" in NFT rewards for those users through its airdrop mechanism. Co-founder and CEO Rick Porter frames the product as a bridge between Web2 and Web3, aiming to give typical Web2 users a native web3 experience with "little to no sacrifice." Porter’s decision to build on the Internet Computer followed his prior work with Dfinity and conversations with Dfinity leadership, which shaped the technical and product approach. The Internet Computer ecosystem has also faced legal controversy, which is part of the broader context for DSCVR’s choice of protocol.
