Dyneval develops a portable, easy-to-use semen analysis tool that the company says produces the most accurate results on the market. The device can produce sex-sorted semen concentrations and assess bull fertility to help predict herd ratios and health. The company says the tool requires no specific training to use. Dyneval secured an additional £500,000 in funding to ramp up production. Management says the funding will help rapidly increase production so the company can serve more farmers across Scotland, the UK and beyond. Leaders framed the product as a way to improve food-production efficiency amid rising costs and tighter access to grant funding. Dyneval has developed the Dynescan, a portable semen-analysis instrument that provides reproducible motility measurements with standard-deviation errors under 3% for samples from the same batch. The device is based on technology developed by soft-matter scientists at Edinburgh, including Wood and Martinez, to characterise complex fluids. Dyneval says the Dynescan will allow vets and farmers to discard damaged or inferior semen before reproduction, reducing repeat inseminations and improving animal welfare and operational efficiency. The company plans to have the Dynescan market-ready in January 2022 and in December 2021 will move to the Roslin Innovation Centre at the University of Edinburgh’s Easter Bush Campus. Dyneval frames the product as addressing falling cattle conception rates and associated environmental benefits, citing models that predict up to a 20% reduction in farming carbon footprint if conception rates improve. Financially, the company has secured grant and equity backing to support product rollout.
