Overview
Echolocation builds Echo, a free mobile microblogging application that connects users to location-based 140-character messages and local content. The app automatically detects a user’s city or neighborhood and surfaces recent posts from Echo users as well as content from local blogs and news outlets. Echo generates revenue from local business subscriptions and advertising. The company says the app currently connects users to more than 200,000 local news stories from over 1,000 sources. Echolocation raised $200K in funding to continue product development and expand the app beyond iOS, and its founders are seeking additional capital. Co‑founded in 2011 by Rocky Chiu and CEO Brian Donohue, the company is working out of the NYU Poly Incubator in DUMBO, Brooklyn after completing the TechLaunch accelerator program.
