Overview
Efficient Drivetrains (EDI) designs and markets advanced PHEV and EV drivetrain solutions, including the EDI PowerDrive drivetrain product line, EDI PowerSuite control software, and EDI Power2E exportable power solutions. The company supplies drivetrain and vehicle control technologies to OEMs across North America and the APAC region, with rising orders from work truck, agriculture, logistics, port industries and Asian manufacturers of PHEV passenger, mass transit, and work truck vehicles. EDI reports accelerating customer orders as emissions regulations drive demand for zero-emission vehicle technologies. The company has closed an initial $7.85 million tranche of a planned Series C and is pursuing additional capital to complete a forecasted $15 million round. Planned use of funds includes accelerating mass production of its product lines and expanding manufacturing capacity in the U.S. and China. Efficient Drivetrains (EDI) develops and markets proprietary drivetrain products and technologies for PHEVs, HEVs, and BEVs, claiming significant cost and efficiency advantages for parallel and series hybrid architectures. The company says it has tripled its number of commercial programs over the past year and significantly increased its global customer base. EDI has accelerated plans for a Series B expansion to meet rising North American demand from utility, telecom and military customers and growing interest from Asian manufacturers for PHEV mass-transport applications. The company has already closed $3MM in its Series B round with early participation from an initial cleantech investor. EDI plans to complete the round with additional institutional and angel investors in Q1 2015 and will use proceeds to accelerate product development and strategic alliances. EDI also plans to expand its manufacturing footprint in the U.S. and China to support growth. Efficient Drivetrains, founded in 2006 and based in San Jose, develops and markets proprietary high-efficiency drivetrain technologies for PHEVs, HEVs, and BEVs. Its core products include the EDI Drive PHEV drivetrain system—providing full electric, series, and parallel hybrid performance—and continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) with high efficiency and large torque capacity. The company delivers size, weight, performance, and affordability advantages to vehicle developers, OEMs, and suppliers. EDI is active in automotive projects throughout North America and the APAC region and is expanding operations in Beijing as well as Dixon and Silicon Valley, California. It recently closed a $3.5M Series A to support customer programs and to expand engineering, sales, facilities, and its product roadmap.
