Eider VF, founded in 2016 and based in Birmingham, develops vertical farms that grow leafy produce for the UK mass market. Its crops are cultivated in standard warehouses augmented into vertical farms using industrial equipment to create controlled plant environments. EVF has secured long-term partnership agreements with leading manufacturers and suppliers to serve retail and food service markets. The company plans to construct its first five facilities by 2024, to be built adjacent to existing packing facilities to reduce transport costs. Those facilities are designed to grow produce year-round (24/7, 365 days) while substantially reducing wastewater, nutrient usage, and biohazard risk. EVF aims to shorten the distance from farm to fork, strengthen UK food security, and limit emissions.
