Emotech is a UK robotics startup developing Olly, a personality‑adapting AI-powered robot assistant. Olly is designed to adapt to the personality of its owner so no two devices will be the same, positioning it as a more varied alternative to voice assistants like Amazon Echo or Apple Siri. The company has closed more than $10M in Series A funding to continue development of its prototype. Emotech is focusing on a major push for CES 2017 to show a more polished device and is targeting an "early next year" launch with an English version first. New funding will be used primarily to hire AI expertise, and the team plans to use a later crowdfunding campaign for product testing and community building. Emotech has worked with university labs including Imperial College, Edinburgh University, UCL, Berkeley and Princeton, and experienced technical difficulties with an earlier prototype demo at TechCrunch Disrupt London.
