Overview
Enedym is a technology spin-out from McMaster University that designs and manufactures switched reluctance motors (SRMs), electric powertrains, and advanced control systems. Its patented SRM technology delivers quiet, efficient, and scalable performance while using no permanent magnets or rare-earth metals, tackling both cost and environmental concerns common in today’s electric propulsion systems. The company holds ownership of more than 70 patents and pending patent applications originating from the research of Canada Excellence Research Chair Laureate Dr. Ali Emadi and his team at McMaster Automotive Resource Centre. Enedym also offers a proprietary digitization platform that dramatically shortens motor-design timelines and reduces associated costs. Headquartered at McMaster Innovation Park in Hamilton, Ontario, the startup aims to lower the total cost of electrified powertrains and accelerate global electrification across multiple motor markets. The recent strategic investment from Honda underscores industry confidence in Enedym’s rare-earth-free SRM technology and will fund further product development and operational scaling. No revenue or user metrics have been disclosed to date.
