Overview

EngFlow is a build-acceleration company that helps enterprise customers speed up building and testing source code, with primary support for Bazel and additional support for Chromium and the Android platform. Its platform offers a distributed build system and tooling to analyze and optimize builds; the team also launched Bazel Invocation Analyzer as an open-source tool for deeper Bazel profiling. EngFlow cites customer success stories such as Brave, which reduced build times from two hours to 15 minutes using its distributed build system. The company targets platform engineering teams that adopt opinionated CI/CD to scale build optimizations to hundreds or thousands of engineers. EngFlow reports new customer migrations from Gradle and CMake toward Bazel-based workflows. Financially, the company announced an $18 million Series A following a $3.7 million seed round led by Andreessen Horowitz. EngFlow provides a distributed build-acceleration SaaS that breaks up the build process into smaller steps and runs them across many cloud machines to speed compiling. The company says it can reduce build times that once took hours down to minutes or seconds depending on project size. EngFlow’s service works with Bazel (the team contributed to Bazel and managed its adoption at Google) but is not exclusive to it; the company currently supports Android and Chromium and plans to support additional build systems. Founders Helen Altshuler (CEO) and Ulf Adams (CTO) met at Google and launched EngFlow at the beginning of 2020. EngFlow came out of the Alchemist Accelerator and intends to remain remote as it grows. The startup already has several paying customers, including Snap, Brave and Mighty Technologies.
