Enterra Feed produces nutrition-rich animal feed ingredients by farming and processing black soldier fly larvae, supplying aquaculture, pet food and poultry feed makers. The company uses pre-consumer food waste as feedstock, creating a circular, landfill-diverting process. Its larvae production and processing yield high-value replacements for inputs like fishmeal and soybean meal. Sales have tripled annually and continue to show high growth across pet food, poultry and aquaculture customers. Enterra is expanding capacity with planned facilities in Alberta (2019), British Columbia (2020) and the Midwestern U.S. (2021). The new plants are intended to substantially increase the company’s production capacity to meet growing demand. Enterra Feed is a Vancouver-based developer of technology that upcycles and recaptures nutrients from pre-consumer food waste using a natural insect-based process. The company converts primarily fruits and vegetables from traceable sources into concentrated nutrient-rich products—natural protein, oils and fertilizer—for agricultural use. It collects waste from food producers, grocery stores, distributors and other traceable sources and already processes material from customers including Overwaitea Food Group, T&T Supermarket Inc., Star Produce Ltd. and numerous Lower Mainland processing facilities. Enterra has introduced commercial sales of Enterra Natural Fertilizer (4-2-2) for greenhouses, horticulture, golf courses and home gardens. The company plans to use new funding to complete its first commercial-scale pilot facility in Langley, BC, which will be operational in Q2 2014. At full capacity the facility will process up to 54,000 tonnes of pre-consumer food waste annually, helping local producers and retailers comply with Metro Vancouver’s organics disposal ban effective 2015. Enterra intends to expand to other agricultural and food production areas throughout Canada and the U.S.
