Overview

EpiBone develops personalized skeletal tissue products for bone and cartilage reconstruction using autologous and allogeneic stem cells, 3D bioprinting, and bioreactor systems. The company’s core technologies enable patient-specific constructs designed to match a patient’s unique anatomy. EpiBone is advancing a pipeline of skeletal tissue products intended to shorten recovery times and improve outcomes for injuries and degenerative conditions. Leadership under CEO and co-founder Dr. Nina Tandon is guiding product development and strategy. The company reports total capital raised of $1M and recently secured an additional funding round led by Kendall Capital Partners with support from LifeSpan Vision Ventures and EMV Capital to accelerate pipeline work. EpiBone is pursuing global expansion opportunities, including markets such as Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. EpiBone is a privately held regenerative medicine company developing personalized bone, cartilage, and compound (bone and cartilage) products using a proprietary bioreactor and a three-step process to regenerate human bone. Its lead bone product, EB-CMF, is in Phase 1 human trials following FDA IND clearance in 2019 for a Phase 1/2 trial targeting ramus continuity defects in the mandible. The platform starts with a CT scan to design a precise scaffold, constructs a custom bioreactor, and infuses the scaffold with the patient’s stem cells to grow a personalized graft. The company traces its technology to roughly 20 years of foundational research in orthopedic tissue engineering and has received grants and early funding. In November 2020 Prof. Robert S. Langer was appointed to EpiBone’s board, and the company has previously received initial funding (2014) from the Partnership Fund for New York City and Breakout Labs. Recent financing is intended to take the company through to a scale-up round expected in late 2022 and to accelerate pipeline development.
