Equator Renewables Asia

Overview

Equator Renewables Asia (ERA) is a renewable-energy developer founded in 2023 by Frank Phuan, the former co-founder of Sunseap Group. The company is building utility-scale solar farms, 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage, and green hydrogen infrastructure across Indonesia’s Riau archipelago to support future clean-power exports to Singapore and sustainable industrial zones in Batam, Bintan, and Karimun. Its current Indonesian pipeline totals approximately 2.2 GWp of solar capacity. In parallel, ERA has already secured subsea space licences for transmission cabling and is working with both governments to resolve regulatory requirements for long-tenure export licences. The firm cites regulatory hurdles, price volatility, and land-access rights as key operational challenges but plans to locate projects on sites controlled by strategic partner KPN Corporation when feasible. The newly raised S$50 million finances site development, early-stage project preparation for solar, feasibility studies and pilots for green hydrogen, and associated storage and transport solutions. Founder Frank Phuan and the management team also invested alongside external strategic backers, underscoring internal confidence in ERA’s growth plans.
