Overview
Erase All Kittens (EAK) is a female-founded edtech studio that teaches children — particularly girls aged 8–12 — to code via a highly gamified, story-driven, Mario-style web game. The existing free game teaches HTML and URL creation while a new paid game released in July expands lessons to HTML, CSS and JavaScript. EAK reports 160,000 players across more than 100 countries, with 55% of players female and 95% saying they want to learn more about coding after playing. The product is used in over 3,000 schools (mostly in the U.K. and U.S.), and the company saw traction increase 500% during pandemic lockdowns. The team blends creative and technical roles (co-founders Dee Saigal and Leonie Van Der Linde, CTO Rex Van Der Spuy and senior developers/artists) and emphasizes storytelling and creativity to appeal to girls. EAK also plans a one-for-one scheme to donate a school account to underserved schools for every school account purchased.
