Overview
Escala develops Mendit, a minimally invasive device that uses a suture with an applicator tip and a low-profile button to re-suspend prolapsed pelvic organs by anchoring to weakened pelvic ligaments. Mendit is made of biocompatible materials that integrate with tissue over time and received FDA 510(k) clearance in 2023. Since that clearance, the company reports hundreds of successful repair procedures using the device. Escala raised €4.5m in financing — including a €2.5m award from the European Innovation Council and additional funds from undisclosed US and Israeli investors — to scale operations and expand market access. The company intends to use the funds to advance the next generation of the Mendit device and to grow its commercial footprint. Escala positions itself within femtech to address pelvic organ prolapse, a condition with multiple risk factors including childbirth, menopause, obesity, and ageing.
