Overview
LeadCold develops the SEALER, an advanced lead-cooled small nuclear reactor that produces 3–10 MW of low‑carbon electricity over a 10–30 year period with no refuelling and corrosion‑resistant technology. The company targets commercial off‑grid markets such as Arctic communities and mining operations, and plans launches in Canada’s Nunavut region and potentially the Northwest Territories. LeadCold estimates Nunavut demand at approximately 200 GWh and suggests the Northwest Territories could require roughly twice that amount; it also sees deployment opportunities at up to 40 mining sites. The company intends to use the investment to complete a pre‑licensing design review with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and to support necessary R&D. LeadCold aims to enter Phase 1 of the pre‑licensing review this year, seek a construction licence by the end of 2021, and have its first unit operational by around 2025. The recent funding milestone is positioned to advance commercialization and regulatory progress for SEALER units.
