Overview

eSUB Construction Software builds cloud-based project management and field-to-office collaboration software for commercial contractors. Its flagship product, eSUBCloud, standardizes project processes and eliminates duplication of effort to help subcontractors streamline operations. The platform emphasizes task management, improved collaboration and increased productivity, and features an intuitive user interface to simplify adoption across teams. Led by CEO Erich Litch, the company focuses on serving commercial subcontractors and making field-to-office workflows more efficient. The company recently completed a growth equity funding round and plans to use the proceeds to expand its outreach and promote its software to a wider audience of subcontractors. No operating metrics were disclosed in the article. eSUB Construction Software is a San Diego, CA–based, mobile-first, cloud-based field data collection and project management platform focused exclusively on the needs and workflows of subcontractors. The company is led by founder and CEO Wendy Rogers and serves subcontractors across more than 30 trades. Its platform is used by thousands of users worldwide to manage project communication and collaboration on construction projects. eSUB integrates with Autodesk’s BIM 360 and PlanGrid as well as construction estimating and accounting software to streamline project delivery from design through operations and accounting. The company closed a $12m Series B round led by Catalyst Investors with participation from existing investor Revolution Ventures. eSUB intends to use the new capital to scale its operations and accelerate product development. eSUB builds web-based project-management and document-control software specifically for subcontractors. The San Diego company focuses on field data collection and integrating subcontractor workflows with Building Information Modeling (BIM). eSUB plans to use the new financing to accelerate integration between its platform and Autodesk’s BIM 360 construction-management platform. Autodesk’s investment comes from its Forge Fund, which has been active in construction-technology investments. Revolution Ventures previously invested $5 million in late 2016. Management framed the funding as enabling subcontractors to leverage technologies from field tools to BIM in a seamless user experience. The company positioned the raise as part of addressing long-term productivity challenges in construction. eSUB offers cloud-based project management and mobile apps designed specifically for subcontractors to record work, manage daily field reports, drawings, photos and job documents, and capture billable activity so they can get paid. CEO Wendy Rogers founded eSUB in 2008 after running a consultancy representing subcontractors, and her domain expertise shaped the product. The company plans to use the new funding to build additional native mobile apps with open APIs to better serve foremen, superintendents, supervisors and other field workers. eSUB currently has about 50 employees and intends to expand to roughly 100 over the next year, hiring in product and software engineering, customer support, and sales and marketing. The product targets a segment underserved by incumbent construction software providers, emphasizing ease of use for field workers who are not accustomed to enterprise software. eSUB is tapping into a trend of increased mobile app adoption in construction for field reports, job information, and project reporting.
