EthioChicken, established in 2010, produces chicks for both egg and meat production and operates eight poultry farms, four hatcheries and two feed mills. The company supplies young chickens to rural households through a network of about 8,000 entrepreneurs and reached roughly 3 million farmers or households last year. EthioChicken directly employs about 1,600 people (587 women, 38%) and supports approximately 16,000–24,000 primarily young Ethiopians through its entrepreneur network. The company holds GlobalG.A.P. certification and emphasizes sustainable production and continuous development of its operations. EthioChicken has been financed by Finnfund since 2017 and is scaling up operations to improve nutrition and livelihoods in rural Ethiopia. The recent USD 5 million investment from OP Finnfund Global Impact Fund I is intended to support that growth and impact mission.
