Evelo Biosciences is a Cambridge, MA-based biotechnology company developing monoclonal microbials, a new modality of orally delivered medicines that modulate systemic immunology through direct interactions with human gut cells. Evelo is exploring approaches that leverage bacteria’s ability to uniquely activate the immune system to fight cancer, aiming to go beyond checkpoint inhibitors and CAR‑T cell therapies. Financially, the company raised $35M in initial funding to advance its programs. The company was co‑founded by Dr. Noubar Afeyan and Dr. David Berry and is led by CEO Simba Gill; Roger Pomerantz M.D. joined the board.
