Eventual was founded in early 2022 by former Lyft engineers Sammy Sidhu and Jay Chia after they built an internal multimodal data processing tool for Lyft’s autonomous vehicle program. The company developed Daft, a Python-native open source data processing engine designed to process multiple data modalities quickly and reliably. Eventual positions Daft as a transformational layer for unstructured data, analogous to what SQL did for tabular data. The team launched the first open source version of Daft in 2022 and is preparing an enterprise product slated for launch in the third quarter. Eventual counts customers including Amazon, CloudKitchens and Together AI. Recent fundraising will fund expansion of the open source offering and development of the commercial product to help customers build AI applications on processed multimodal data.
