Everything But The House

6000 Creek Road, Blue Ash, Ohio, 45242-4024, United States

Overview

EVERYTHING BUT THE HOUSE (EBTH) operates a full-service online marketplace that handles photography, cataloging, payment and delivery for estate sales. The platform enables discovery of antiques, original art and everyday items, running more than 350 estate sales a month with all items starting at $1. Founded in 2008 and based in Cincinnati, EBTH targets a roughly $100 billion estate sale market the company says will grow by $10 billion over the next four years. EBTH reported 110% year-over-year revenue growth and has raised $84.5 million to date. The company plans to use the $41.5 million Series C to fund growth initiatives in operations and technology and to expand its team nationally. EBTH has also added senior leadership and board experience as it scales its full-service model to simplify downsizing and broaden buyer discovery. Everything But The House (EBTH) operates an online estate sale marketplace that moves the majority of the estate-sale process online for people who need to liquidate assets. After a property owner signs up, EBTH sends an operations team to search the home, photograph and catalogue items, and haul away junk. Items deemed valuable are listed in seven-day online auctions; EBTH collects payments and coordinates deliveries across all 50 U.S. states and 50 countries. The site attracts about 750,000 unique monthly visitors and is running more than 150 sales per month in 14 cities, handling estates ranging from roughly $30,000 to millions in content. EBTH was launched in Cincinnati in 2008 and has opened offices in Los Angeles, D.C., Dallas and five other metro areas over the last eight months, with a planned New York office and a goal to expand to the top 50 U.S. cities. Everything But The House (EBTH) operates a full‑service estate-sale service that combines in-person inventorying and valuation with an online auction marketplace to open local sales to buyers nationwide. The company sends employees to estates to catalog items, price them, run auctions online, coordinate local pickup two days after a sale, and ship items to out‑of‑area buyers; the full cycle typically takes about 30 days. EBTH also handles disposal of items it deems unsellable. While many sales still clear to local buyers, listing items online increases demand and typically raises realized prices. The site began years ago as a way to help a Cincinnati, Ohio estate‑sales business and was later restructured when Andy and Jon Nielsen and Mike Reynolds joined owners Jacquie Denny and Brian Graves; Andy Nielsen is now CEO. EBTH expanded from Cincinnati into additional markets (its second was Lexington, Ky., then Louisville) and is operating in six cities. After years of bootstrapping, the company raised institutional capital to accelerate coast‑to‑coast expansion into larger U.S. markets.
