Everywear Games is a Finnish developer that builds smartwatch and mobile games. Founded in 2015, the company says it became the world’s leading creator of smartwatch games over the prior three years. Its stated mission is to create instantly accessible games that become part of daily life and emphasize simple yet deep game design. Everywear says it is taking learnings from smartwatch development to create mobile game experiences for larger audiences. The company announced that Supercell invested €5m to support expansion and development into mobile gaming. Everywear also said it is hiring experienced talent to pursue its long-term vision. Everywear Games is a new Helsinki-based studio formed by industry veterans from Remedy, Digital Chocolate and Rovio and led by co-founder and CEO Aki Järvilehto. The company is focused exclusively on building games tailored for wearable devices, targeting the soon-to-launch Apple Watch. Its design philosophy emphasizes short, 5–15 second meaningful play sessions and “Twitter-sized entertainment” that nevertheless unfold toward longer-term goals and narratives. The team believes smartwatch games require new mechanics that balance simplicity and depth, and that conventional console or smartphone approaches won’t work. Everywear has picked up backing of around €500,000 and additional undisclosed funding from the Finnish government to support its launch and early development. The studio aims to be an early mover in smartwatch gaming and expects others to follow as the platform matures.
