Overview

Evollve Inc., maker of Ozobot, builds small social robots that teach the creative side of coding through a patented color-command language, block-based OzoBlockly, and mission-based play. Its product lineup includes the Ozobot Bit and Ozobot Evo and it integrates physical play with digital apps. The company says Ozobot reaches 1 million kids worldwide, is used in 3,000 classrooms, and has shipped more than half a million units. Evollve reports 400% year-over-year growth and teachers report a 70% better retention rate among students using Ozobot. Planned product developments include level 5 of OzoBlockly, bot-to-bot recognition, a limited-edition rose gold Evo, and additional missions and games. The recent financing will be used to support these product development efforts and to further scale the business. Evollve, based in Redondo Beach, CA, develops Ozobot, a smart robot that teaches robotics and coding through creative and social games. Led by CEO and founder Nader Hamda, the company combines physical and digital technologies to entertain, educate and socially interact while focusing on providing skills. Ozobot reads different colors and flashing colored lights on game boards, paper, tablets and smartphones, recognizing color patterns (for example red-black-red or green-blue-green) as codes that translate into actions like slow down, speed up, turn left or stop. Evollve completed a $2M Series A funding round. Backers included unnamed angel investors. The company intends to use the funds for full-scale manufacturing and the official retail launch of Ozobot.
