ewigbyte is a Munich-based deep-tech startup pioneering a data-storage medium that engraves information directly into glass using ultrashort femtosecond laser pulses. By abandoning magnetic and electronic storage, the technology eliminates ongoing energy consumption after the writing process, offering a durable, tamper-resistant solution for so-called “cold” data archives. The company positions its product as a response to surging global data volumes, rising cyber threats, and the enormous energy footprint of traditional data centers. Funds from its recent round will help build an industrial write-store-read prototype and launch pilot deployments within the year. ewigbyte has also secured a validation contract from SPRIND, Germany’s Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, which recognizes the approach as a potential leap innovation.
