Overview
Founded in 2016, Exeliom Biosciences engineers live-bacterial, NOD2-targeting immunomodulators to boost patients’ innate immune responses. Its lead candidate, EXL01, is a Faecalibacterium prausnitzii-derived therapy that reprograms macrophages and the tumour micro-environment to overcome resistance to existing treatments. EXL01 is currently being tested in three Phase 2 oncology trials alongside immune-checkpoint inhibitors, including what the company calls the largest randomised Phase 2 study worldwide of a bacterial therapy in gastric cancer. The programme also includes a Phase 2 trial in Crohn’s disease and a study aimed at preventing recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection. Fresh capital will fund proof-of-concept Phase 2 work, preparation for a new U.S. cancer indication and broader international expansion. To date, Exeliom has secured nearly €30 million in combined dilutive and non-dilutive financing, underscoring strong investor confidence in its precision immunotherapy platform.
