Paragon One operates an online career coaching service and mentor marketplace that pairs college students with professionals via a recommendation engine that matches on alma mater, major, interests and personality. The platform focuses on students seeking roles in data analysis, data science, consulting, market research and software engineering, and has a large user segment of Chinese students studying in the U.S. Its marketplace currently lists about 160 mentors with roughly 300 more waiting to join; coaches are paid per session and companies participate for free. Paragon One typically sells three-month subscriptions that cost about $2,000–$3,000. The startup says the recommendation technology is key to scaling its service and plans to use new funding for product development to handle more students. The company was founded in 2015 by CEO Matt Wilkerson and CTO Byron Hsu, who began by running a mentorship organization at MIT.
