Overview

EYE TECH CARE SA develops and markets non-invasive therapeutic medical devices for ophthalmology, notably EyeOP1, its first commercial device for treating glaucoma using ultrasound. EyeOP1 implements the UCP (Ultrasound Ciliary Plasty) procedure, described as a simple, non-invasive treatment for uncontrolled glaucoma irrespective of prior therapies. The company launched a new product generation in 2015 and has been pursuing product registration since 2015. EYE TECH CARE highlights a large addressable market—approximately 120 million people worldwide with glaucoma or ocular hypertension (only ~30% diagnosed) and 22 million in China alone. The firm plans international expansion, with a strategic focus on China where only about 6% of patients are treated; EVERPINE Capital will support market entry and regulatory efforts. EYE TECH CARE is based in Lyon, France, and recently secured a financing and partnership agreement to fund its commercial and regulatory push. EyeTechCare SA, based in Rillieux-la-Pape near Lyon, France, develops non-invasive therapeutic medical devices for the ophthalmology market based on High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU). Founded in 2008 and led by CEO Fabrice Romano, the company’s first device, EyeOP1, targets glaucoma and obtained CE mark in May 2011 before launching at the end of 2012 after clinical trials in France and Europe. The EyeOP1 uses the UC3 (ultrasound circular cyclo-coagulation) procedure to reduce intraocular pressure by partially and accurately destroying the ciliary bodies that produce aqueous humor. The company secured €10m in a third funding round to support its clinical and regulatory programs. EyeTechCare intends to use the capital to complete its EyeMUST 2 international trial (results due in 2014) and to fund initial steps required for FDA registration, with plans to notify the FDA before the end of 2013. EyeTechCare develops non-invasive therapeutic medical devices using ultrasound technology, notably EyeOP1 for the treatment of glaucoma. The company is preparing to complete the first clinical trial in man of EyeOP1 and targets a market launch in early 2011. Proceeds from its latest financing will be used to complete that clinical trial, establish manufacturing facilities, and build the sales and marketing organization. Founded in 2008 by three managers with medical, industrial and regulatory expertise, EyeTechCare is based in Rillieux la Pape, France. The company completed preclinical studies of EyeOP1 after an initial funding round in July 2008. It has also secured €500,000 in aid and subsidies from OSEO.
