Fabricly operates a crowdsourced fashion marketplace where designers submit ideas that go into user-voted competitions or pre-order campaigns; items are only produced if a pre-order tipping point is reached. The site holds customers' card details but charges only when the required number of pre-orders is met, canceling orders otherwise. When thresholds are reached Fabricly works with factories in Los Angeles and New York to produce and ship items, with initial orders expected to ship in late December. Designers receive a 5–15% commission on each sale. The company advertises steep discounts enabled by on-demand production and the absence of retail overhead, and had nine items available for pre-order at the time of reporting with additional designers planned for January. Fabricly is Y Combinator–backed and was founded by Ari Helgason.
