Face.com develops facial recognition technology and has created Facebook-facing apps such as PhotoTagger and Photo Finder (the latter in private alpha). Founded in 2007 and based in Tel-Aviv, the company has opened a developer community and an API to give third-party developers access to its core technology. By May the company said its technology had helped users scan over 7 billion photos, and thousands of developers have signed up for the platform. The company plans to use new funding to boost its development team, hire additional staff, and build out infrastructure to support its facial recognition platform. Its product focus combines consumer-facing apps with a platform play aimed at developers and partners.
