Overview

FairPlay provides a Fairness-as-a-Service platform that helps companies using AI for high-stakes consumer decisions identify and correct blind spots in their decision-making systems. Its product is used by major financial institutions — including several top banks and Fortune 500 companies — to evaluate models, broaden credit access, and strengthen financial outcomes. Customers report that the platform increases revenue, helps maintain regulatory compliance, and improves consumers’ financial health outcomes. In 2024 FairPlay reported a threefold increase in business, signaling strong market demand for its AI safety solutions. The company says the new funding will accelerate its mission to build fairness infrastructure for the Internet and create greater safety for consumers amid rapid AI adoption. Investors and leadership framed the traction and institutional adoption as validation of FairPlay’s vision and execution. FairPlay offers algorithmic fairness solutions that empower lenders to identify and mitigate bias in credit models, improving profitability and financial inclusion. Launched in 2020 by CEO Kareem Saleh, the company provides two APIs: Fairness Analysis, which detects disparities in model inputs, outputs and outcomes, and Second Look, which re-underwrites declined applications for borrowers from protected groups. Its AI fairness techniques aim to reduce bias against people of color, women and other historically disadvantaged groups. Customers include Figure Technologies, Happy Money and Octane. FairPlay recently added advisors Manny Alvarez, David Silberman and Kim Gerhardt. The company plans to use new funds to grow engineering and data science teams and expand its products into insurance, marketing and fraud industries. FairPlay is an AI fairness solution led by Founder & CEO Kareem Saleh that helps companies understand and mitigate bias in algorithmic decision-making. It offers two APIs to go to market in financial services: a Fairness Analysis API that analyzes model inputs, outputs, and outcomes, and a Second Look API that re-underwrites declined loan applications using fairness techniques. Second Look is designed to identify declined applicants who resemble “good” borrowers on dimensions the primary model did not consider, increasing approvals for applicants of color, women, and other historically disadvantaged groups. The company also launched a Mortgage Fairness Monitor, a data-driven ranking of mortgage fairness for Black Americans, women, and Hispanic Americans across 20 U.S. metropolitan areas, based on 2020 data. FairPlay raised $4.5M in seed funding to support continued growth and the development of its machine learning engineering and data science team.
