FairShake
2323 Broadway, Oakland, CA, 94612, United States
Overview
FairShake automates the individual arbitration process for consumers by using machine learning to generate the appropriate documentation and coach users through each step. Founder Teel Lidow, a lawyer, built the product after a personal travel dispute and likens the service to TurboTax for arbitration. The company targets disputes that became more common after the Supreme Court’s AT&T v. Concepcion decision, which enabled mandatory arbitration clauses in consumer contracts. FairShake's workflow is designed to replace roughly 10 hours of research and document preparation with guided inputs and automated outputs. The company charges 20% of any cash or credits won, 10% of any amount deducted from what the consumer owes, and a $20 minimum per resolved claim. It offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee under which consumers pay nothing if they are unhappy with the outcome and has secured $3 million in funding led by First Round Capital with participation from Founder Collective, BoxGroup and the founders of Warby Parker, Harry’s, AllBirds and LegalZoom.
