Farmigo

55 9th St, Ste C, Brooklyn, NY, 11215, United States

Overview

Farmigo runs a consumer marketplace where customers preorder farm-fresh groceries and pick them up at local “food communities” such as schools or offices. The company began by building software for farmers but shifted its focus to the consumer marketplace while continuing to develop an end-to-end ERP that tracks inventory, preorders, packing, and driver workflows. That technology is core to its model, which avoids home delivery by concentrating distribution at pickup sites. Farmigo positions its service as a convenient alternative to farmers’ markets and a more flexible option than traditional community-supported agriculture. It is available in New York City, New Jersey, and Northern California and plans to launch in Seattle–Tacoma on October 14. The company reports selling to more than 15,000 families and adding about 2,000 new families each month. Farmigo runs a "local food communities" program that brings a farmer's-market-style offering into workplaces, schools and community centers via dedicated online sites. The service gives each community access to a group of local farms and lets members order seasonal fruit, vegetables, eggs, meats, fish, bread, cheeses, wine and coffee for delivery. Orders are fulfilled and delivered to the community location within 48 hours of harvest. Farmigo pilots the program with companies in San Francisco and New York (including Etsy, Kiva and Carrot Creative) and recommends starting communities through specific organizations to simplify logistics and security. The company uses a Kickstarter-like commitment model to ensure farms have sufficient demand and says communities typically need roughly a 100-person office or 80–100 families to work; one pilot (Carrot Creative) saw about 75% adoption with company subsidies. Farmigo has also signaled product expansion (including future meal-planning features) and recently raised new financing to support growth.
