Overview

Farmy operates an online farmers' market focused on Switzerland, offering produce, bread, dairy, meat, fish, flowers, wine and a selected range of larger brands, including the full Alnatura assortment. The platform emphasizes sustainability, transparency and close relationships with Swiss farmers and small and medium-sized food producers. Farmy aims to simplify weekly shopping by aggregating regional bakeries, butchers, farm shops and supermarkets into one delivery service and is expanding its delivery areas. The company plans to use new capital to invest in growth and to finance operations until it reaches break-even, targeted for 2025. Operationally, the Zurich hub is already profitable and covers all monthly fixed and variable costs of the logistics centre. Farmy was founded in 2014; co-CEOs Roman Hartmann and Tobias Schubert and the board highlight continued investor support and a strategy of responding to shifting consumer trends toward online grocery shopping. Farmy is a Zurich-based online market for fresh products that has invested in vertical integration and software licensing. In mid-2021 it launched the in‑house Farmy Bakery and in early 2022 acquired the online florist Blumenpost. The company has expanded a software-licensing business whose backend and frontend solutions are used by Alnatura since October. Farmy reported CHF32 million in revenue last year and employs about 160 people. CEO Roman Hartmann notes Swiss online grocery penetration is around 3% today versus higher rates abroad. The company aims to reach breakeven in roughly two to three years. Farmy operates an online marketplace offering over 12,500 mainly organic hand-picked products from more than 1,000 producers. It delivers fresh, emission-reduced orders using smart logistics and its own fleet of e-mobiles, with free delivery in the Zurich and Lake Geneva metropolitan regions. In H1 2020 Farmy grew sales by 160% year-over-year to around €10.6 million and strengthened its position as the third largest online food shop in Switzerland. Founded in 2014 and based in Zürich, the company combines logistics with a unique in-house IT infrastructure to manage fulfillment and delivery. Farmy is increasingly commercializing that IT as a service for food producers, associations, and offline retailers, with early customers including Jucker Farm and Bio Suisse. The company plans to use new funding to expand its electric vehicle fleet, delivery areas, warehouse capacity, in-house IT and marketing to support further growth. Farmy.ch operates an online marketplace for groceries and delivers to customers using a purpose-built fleet of electric delivery vehicles, offering free deliveries and delivery-time windows communicated to +/-15 minutes. Customers can track orders and contact the courier via a redesigned Farmy app that shows the order on a map. The e-mobiles run in Zürich, Zollikon, Lausanne, Geneva and the La Côte lakeside, with three delivery rounds per day (morning, pre-dinner and post-dinner). To support the concept Farmy built a fleet financed via support from the Technologiefonds. The company opened a second logistics center in the Romandie as it expands its Swiss market presence. Founded in 2014, Farmy.ch employs about 75 people. Farmy.ch operates an online farm shop offering fresh, local food from over 400 farmers and small producers, currently listing about 5,000 products. The company delivers nationwide across Switzerland, using its own couriers in the German-speaking region and e-bikes for deliveries in the city of Zurich. In May 2017 Farmy recorded revenue of nearly CHF 0.5M and had grown sales to several million CHF in 2016; management targets at least a doubling of revenue for 2017. Farmy employs 29 full-time staff. The company plans to expand its assortment to roughly 8,000 products (adding about 3,000 items) and to scale up warehousing and delivery logistics. In June 2017 it completed a financing round of about CHF 5M to fund those initiatives, bringing total capital raised to over CHF 10M.
