Fat Llama

Unit 1 Royle Studios 41 Wenlock Rd, London, Greater London, N1 7SG, United Kingdom

Overview

Fat Lama operates a fully insured peer-to-peer rental marketplace that lets individuals rent out almost any item. The platform secures insurance that covers each rented item for up to $30,000 and uses identity checks plus risk-profiling technology to manage lender risk. Founded in early 2016 and based in London, Fat Lama aims to make access to seldom-used items safe and seamless. Its user base includes creative professionals with project-driven needs, and many lenders are generating supplemental income from rarely used gear. After launching in New York earlier this year the site listed more than 6,000 items there, with supply in New York growing over three times as fast as in London. The company plans to use new funding to expand across the U.S., hiring U.S. city managers and investing in product, engineering, and operations in London.
