Overview
Fermata Energy builds vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems that connect energy stored in electric vehicles to the power grid. Its offerings include bidirectional chargers, a cloud-based management software platform, and a system architecture for harvesting renewable energy and storing it in EVs. The company aims to transform EVs into energy-storage assets and enable centralized infrastructure to load balance, transport, and store renewable energy, including V2X microgrids. Fermata was founded in 2010 to accelerate EV adoption and support integration of renewables into the grid. It has partnered with OEMs and utilities to accelerate market growth and in July 2021 its V2X energy management software leveraged Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband via the 5G Studio. Verizon Ventures joined Fermata's $40 million Series A led by the Carlyle Group to support scaling of its technology.
