Overview

Fi is a New York–based pet tech company that builds connected dog collars with Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and AI‑determined geofencing. The company released a second‑generation Series 2 device with hardware improvements including battery optimization that can deliver up to three months of life on a charge (company cites an average around 1.5 months). The device notifies owners when a dog travels outside a learned geofenced area. Fi launched its product in March 2019 and says it has experienced solid growth since then, with demand continuing through the COVID‑19 pandemic. The product became available on Chewy in Q4 of last year, and the company is focused on growing availability across the U.S. Fi describes itself as a relatively small operation and is pursuing additional retail partnerships and research to expand its footprint. Fi makes the world's first LTE-M smart GPS dog collar, offering instant location tracking across the US (subscription required). The collar includes lost-dog alerts, a night-visibility light, and activity monitoring with step-based goals. By leveraging AT&T's LTE-M low-power network, Fi's device averages three months between charges. The product was developed over 18 months and designed by Fred Bould; it retails for $149, supports dogs with 13.5"–34.5" necks, and pairs with a free iOS and Android app; optional GPS/LTE subscriptions range from $1.59–$1.89 per week. Fi was founded in 2017 by Jonathan Bensamoun and Loren Kirkby and is headquartered in DUMBO, Brooklyn. The company says the collar is available now on its website and that it is currently hiring.
