Overview

FiberSense is a Sydney, Australia–based technology company led by CEO Mark Englund that offers fiber-optic sensing technology as a service. Its core product turns existing fiber networks into high-sensitivity monitoring platforms by combining integrated photonics, optical fiber telecoms, distributed sensing, machine learning and AI. The platform detects vibrations, temperature changes, and acoustic signals and translates them into real-time, actionable intelligence for urban and ocean environments. Cited use cases include traffic management, early detection of structural issues in bridges and buildings, real-time monitoring of critical utility networks, and proactive maintenance of telecom infrastructure. The company intends to use the new funding to accelerate R&D, expand sales and marketing resources, and scale operations to meet demand for smart infrastructure solutions. FiberSense is commercializing SuperSoniQ, a vibration-detection and ranging sensor platform that uses fibre to detect vibrations and expand awareness of public spaces. The company says the platform can warn pedestrians of approaching vehicles and improve interaction with public spaces. Tests have been conducted in Sydney and Singapore and the technology’s developers claim predictive accuracy of 99.998 per cent for road events. FiberSense positions the technology as valuable for driverless-car development and broader public‑space safety applications. Founder Mark Englund developed the technology; Bevan Slattery and a group of corporate investors have backed the company. The company has reportedly raised Series A capital and an ASX listing is expected.
