Overview
Fidra Energy develops large-scale battery energy storage projects and is delivering the Thorpe Marsh BESS in South Yorkshire. The Thorpe Marsh project is designed for 1.4GW/3.1GWh capacity and is projected to start operations in mid-2027, aiming to be the UK’s largest battery storage facility. Fidra awarded supply and construction contracts to Sungrow (Power Titan 2.0 batteries), H&MV Engineering (grid connections and electrical work) and Jones Bros Civil Engineering (civil and drainage). The company has secured long-term offtake agreements with EDF, Octopus Energy, and Statkraft covering nearly 80% of the project’s capacity and received a 15-year capacity market award effective October 2028. Fidra reached financial close for Thorpe Marsh after securing up to £445m in equity from EIG and the National Wealth Fund alongside £594m in potential loan facilities from international lenders. Management and investors framed the financing as enabling delivery of the project, improving grid stability and supporting UK clean energy ambitions.
