Overview
Finch provides an API for employment systems that gives access to organization-wide directory, payroll and benefits data across more than 200 payroll, HRIS and benefits systems through a single integration. The integration serves as the connecting infrastructure underlying the employment industry. Led by CEO Jeremy Zhang, Finch is based in San Francisco, CA. The company raised an undisclosed amount in additional funding led by Intuit Ventures. This follows a $40m Series B in February 2023 that was co-led by Menlo Ventures and General Catalyst. Finch intends to use the new funds to expand operations and broaden its business reach. Finch offers a unified API that connects more than 200 HR systems using a multi-factor approach (APIs, SFTP and other protocols) to sync payroll, benefits and employee data. Customers use Finch to build onboarding, benefits enrollment and payroll-related workflows without manual file transfers or internal ops. The company positions itself as a "Plaid for HR," layering encryption in transit and at rest plus access controls for privacy. Finch plans to add coverage for more payroll and benefits systems and expand into new employment data verticals while growing engineering, product and customer success teams. Operationally, Finch said it was cash flow-positive prior to the round and reported revenue growth of 12x since its Series A last June; it also connects more than 1.5 million employees through its platform. Finch intends to grow headcount from 57 employees to north of 80 in 2023. Finch provides an "API for employment systems" that serves as a connectivity layer for over 150 payroll, HR and benefits platforms, enabling apps and services to access disparate employment data. Its product suite includes Finch Benefits, which automates benefits-plan creation, enrollments, and deduction/contribution updates into the correct payroll tax categories. The company serves over 10,000 employers, from startups to publicly traded companies, and declined to disclose revenue. Finch is a 36-person startup and plans to use new funding to grow engineering, sales and developer teams. Longer-term roadmap aims to expand support beyond benefits, recruiting, time and identity systems to handle tasks such as reimbursements, running payroll and other money-movement functions. Finch states it does not analyze data passing through its platform, does not sell personal information, and allows customers to delete data or stop sharing with connected apps at any time. Finch provides an API that connects customers to payroll and HR data, offering a free developer tier and paid options priced either pay-as-you-go or with SaaS-like subscriptions. The company was founded by Jeremy Zhang and Ansel Parikh and is a Y Combinator graduate. The founders moved quickly from concept to product, posting a landing page in April and writing first code in July after pivoting from an initial consumer-lending idea prompted by PPP-related work. Finch reports 50% month-over-month growth in both revenue and employers connected and can support systems for 1.4 million employers today, with plans to 10x that number in the next year. The startup has six staff today and expects to scale to 15–20 by the end of next year. Finch faces the challenge of integrating with myriad payroll and HR systems, which will require substantial time and investment as it scales.
