FINsix is a maker of very high-frequency power conversion technology that miniaturizes power supplies to deliver high power density and performance. Its core products replace bulky power bricks with small, lightweight power conversion modules for consumer electronics. The company was founded in 2010 as a spinout from the MIT LEES Laboratory and is based in Menlo Park, California. FINsix holds 20 issued and pending patents around its disruptive power-conversion technology. The company plans to expand its commercial footprint in Asia through a strategic partnership with Marubun, aiming to get its products designed into a broad range of OEM applications. Marubun’s distribution reach and logistics capabilities are expected to accelerate FINsix’s market penetration across Japan and potentially wider Asia. Finsix has built a 65-watt laptop charger about a third the size of typical adapters using new power-conversion techniques. The adapter includes two USB charging inputs powerful enough to juice tablets. The company says its technology cycles power up to 1,000 times faster than existing adapters. CTO and cofounder Anthony Sagneri developed the technology at MIT. Finsix demonstrated the product at Eureka Park during CES and plans to launch a Kickstarter in March with an eventual retail price of about $90; it is also working on a MagSafe version for Apple laptops. The company is based in Menlo Park, California and has raised $5 million so far from Arunas Chesonis, Venrock and other angel investors.
