Fire Aside is a computer-based platform that records, tracks and helps remediate hazards tied to wildfires, earthquakes, floods and other disasters via a custom field app and an evaluation program with photos and graphics. The software has logged 32,000 properties in 90 communities across four states and contains thousands of community-specific recommendations for home hardening and vegetation management. The effort was prompted by the Woodward Fire of August 2020 and traces to a Marin County prototype; co-founders are CEO Jason Brooks and CTO Don Moore. Local emergency management and fire agencies, including the Santa Rosa Fire Department and the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority, use the platform for property inspections and risk assessment. Santa Rosa is developing a Triage model to gauge infrastructure risk beyond fires (earthquakes, floods and storms), with a drill scheduled next month and estimated readiness by spring. Last month Fire Aside received a $350,000 venture-capital infusion from Marin Sonoma Impact Ventures and is expanding use among North Bay agencies.
