Overview
Firebolt is an Israeli cloud data warehouse startup founded in 2019 by Eldad Farkash, Saar Bitner and Ariel Yaroshevich. It provides a SQL-based architecture and novel compression techniques that connect data lakes, reduce cloud capacity needs and claim up to 182x faster performance than other data warehouses. Its customers include big tech companies, business intelligence firms and customer-facing businesses that need real-time analytics, though the company does not disclose specific customers. Firebolt only emerged from stealth 13 months ago and has expanded to roughly 200 employees across 25 countries. The company plans to use new funding to continue investing in its technology stack, step up business development and hire more talent. A recent strategic hire is Mosha Pasumansky as CTO, who will lead a new Seattle office. Firebolt builds a rearchitected cloud data warehouse that uses novel compression and parsing techniques to deliver SQL-based analytics with much lower cloud capacity requirements. The company claims performance up to 182 times faster than other data warehouses and positions itself on speed and efficiency rather than scale. Its platform can connect to data lakes and the wider data ecosystem to serve business intelligence, customer-facing services, and back-end data applications. Firebolt emerged from stealth in December after a multi-year private development period and launched its product roughly six months ago. Early customer traction is primarily U.S.-based, with users migrating from Snowflake and BigQuery and initial user counts having grown from a dozen or so during stealth. Financially, Firebolt recently raised a $127M Series B, bringing total funding to $164M; the company did not disclose a valuation. Firebolt builds a SQL-based cloud data-warehousing platform that emphasizes speed and efficiency through new compression and parsing techniques. The company claims performance up to 182x faster than other data warehouses and says this reduces cloud-capacity requirements. Its platform connects data lakes with a broader data ecosystem and runs on purpose-built warehouses the team created. Firebolt has been operating in stealth for two years and is officially launching now. It already counts about 12 large enterprise customers and reports strong new-business activity. The founders — Eldad Farkash (CEO), Saar Bitner (COO) and Ariel Yaroshevich (CTO) — previously co-founded Sisense. Firebolt plans to use new funding to continue product development and expand its customer base and infrastructure.
