FireEye

601 McCarthy Blvd, Milpitas, CA, 95035, United States

Overview

FireEye develops enterprise security products focused on defending against next‑generation threats such as zero‑day and targeted attacks that can bypass traditional network defenses. The company’s products protect against web‑based cyber attacks, email threats and malware. It recently raised an additional $50 million in venture funding, bringing total funding to more than $100 million, and plans to use the proceeds to hire executive talent and prepare for an IPO later in the year. Other stated priorities for the financing include international expansion, product development, scaling operations, and supporting a rapidly growing customer base. In 2012 FireEye reported taking more than $100 million in bookings and more than 100% booking growth. The company says its partner and customer base grew to more than 1,000 organizations and that more than a quarter of the Fortune 100 are deploying its products; it was founded in 2004. FireEye develops malware protection systems and cyber security products focused on detecting and defeating stealth malware. The company announced a strategic investment and technology development agreement with In-Q-Tel to extend its cyber security product development and stealth malware technical capabilities. The partnership is intended to help protect against cyber threats and support the missions of the U.S. Intelligence Community. In-Q-Tel characterized FireEye’s approach as next-generation and potentially game changing for malware detection and defeat. CEO Ashar Aziz said the agreement allows FireEye to provide the U.S. Intelligence Community with a technology solution to address critical national security needs. FireEye is backed by Sequoia Capital, Norwest Venture Partners, JAFCO, SVB Capital, DAG Ventures and Juniper Networks. FireEye develops the FireEye Botwall to detect and protect consumers and businesses from botnets, complementing traditional antivirus and security programs. The company says its protection measures are not solely based on attackers' known behaviors and that the product grows smarter as its global customer network expands. FireEye positions the Botwall as a networked product with a data-driven advantage as more customers use it. The startup was founded in 2004 and is based in Menlo Park, Calif. The new funding will be used to expand the sales and marketing team and to release new versions of the product. To date the company has raised $34.5 million in total financing.
