FireID builds security applications for mobile authentication that generate one-time passwords via users' mobile phones, even when offline. Its solution eliminates the need for remembered passwords, SMS-delivered codes, or bank-issued hardware tokens. The product is used to secure access to online banking, e-commerce sites, cloud applications and VPNs. FireID says offline generation of one-time passwords reduces opportunities for fraud. The company plans to use new funding to expand worldwide distribution into key verticals. Founded in 2006 and based in Cape Town with offices in the US and UK, FireID recently secured €5 million (~$6.4M) from 4Di Capital.
