First Contact Entertainment is a Santa Monica, CA-based virtual reality studio focused on creating narrative-driven VR games and experiences with high production values. Led by co-founder and president Hess Barber, the company intends to use the funds to continue creating VR gaming narrative-driven content. Its debut playable VR content was scheduled to launch on Steam in 2016, and future projects were planned to offer a mix of original IP and prominent licenses. The studio added former Skybound Interactive executive producer Matt Candler as Chief Revenue Officer to manage publishing, business development and strategic partnerships, and Jessica Ward, co-founder of VRLA, as director of community management to oversee relationships with VR and gaming communities. The company raised US $5m in funding from a group of early-stage investors.
