Firstbase builds an Employee Experience Management (EXM) platform that provides remote infrastructure as a service, automating employee onboarding, offboarding, provisioning and management of physical equipment. The subscription-based EXM catalog lets workers select laptops, monitors, ergonomic seating and other items while Firstbase handles fulfillment, IT installation, repairs, upgrades and asset collection. The company says its software manages tens of thousands of remote workers across the U.S. and Europe and supports customers from early-stage startups to $40 billion public companies. Firstbase’s customer base has grown 7x year-over-year and revenue increased 16x since April 2021. Founded in late 2019 and headquartered in Scotland and New York, the fully-remote company has 50 employees (a 5x increase since its Series A) and plans to double headcount by the end of 2022. The new capital will fund aggressive hiring, product development, operations and geographic expansion. Firstbase offers a two-part product: a SaaS asset-tracking platform for companies to manage remote worker hardware and a hardware service that ships pre‑configured devices and provides remote IT support. The company extracts gross margin from its software subscriptions and from hardware sales, though the hardware business is described as more nascent. Firstbase began onboarding customers in November (prior year) and had a waitlist of roughly 600 companies by March 2020, a figure the company says has since multiplied. Kit costs per remote worker are said to range roughly $2,000–$5,000, and customers may pay those costs over time via flat payments. The team is small (about 10 people, three part‑time) and plans to grow headcount four- to five‑fold this year, with hires focused on sales and enterprise features. With new capital the company intends to build more enterprise-friendly software to target larger customers and scale its offerings.
