Flahmingo is a Calgary-based FinTech startup founded in 2020 that offers commission-free fractional investing via an automated Pies and Slices model, which the company says is the first of its kind in Canada. Users can fund accounts with scheduled deposits, automatic roundups, and one-time deposits. Each “pie” represents a category (for example tech or fashion) and is made up of slices that correspond to publicly traded companies or ETFs hand-picked by the user. The company plans to launch its trading app and a gamified educational app called Flahmingo Central in Q1 2022. Flahmingo raised C$1.88 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed round and is allocating the capital to growth, including hires in product, technology, marketing, and customer success. The startup is also increasing marketing efforts ahead of its product launch.
