Flatpay

Hørkær 16, Herlev, 2730, Denmark

Overview

Founded three years ago, Flatpay sells card terminals and POS software to SMBs, charging a single flat transaction rate to remove the complexity of traditional payment fees. The company targets a segment that represents 99% of European businesses and now serves roughly 60,000 merchants, up from 7,000 in April 2024. Flatpay surpassed €100 million in annual recurring revenue in October and says ARR is growing by nearly €1 million per day, with a goal of reaching €400-€500 million by 2026. Although it is not yet profitable, rapid top-line growth has helped it secure a €1.5 billion valuation, making it one of Europe’s newest fintech unicorns. The startup employs about 1,500 people and expects to double headcount by the end of next year to support expansion in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the U.K., and one or two additional markets. Its high-touch, in-person sales model is paired with 24/7 customer support, which management believes drives faster adoption despite higher acquisition costs. Beyond payments, Flatpay is experimenting with AI features and plans to introduce a banking suite that includes cards and accounts to deepen its relationship with merchants.
