Flave offers a mobile app that incentivizes dining at local Baltimore restaurants by giving users Flave Cash when they post photos of their meals; the cash can be used for deals, to win gift cards, or donated back to restaurants. The app also provides browsing and discovery tools and returns user photos to restaurants as marketing assets. Flave launched on the App Store and Google Play after a public beta and earned a RealLIST Startups 2021 mention. The company has about 30 early-adopter restaurants helping to test features and provide feedback. Flave recently received $100,000 through TEDCO’s RUBRIC program, which the founders say will fund wider marketing via digital channels and in-person partnership events. The team is fully Maryland-based, operating out of Towson University’s StarTUp accelerator and staffed by local graduates from Johns Hopkins, UMBC, Towson and UMD.
